Time Zone Hop

What is Time Zone Hop?

Time Zone Hop is a free daily geography game about the world's clocks. Every day at midnight UTC, everyone in the world gets the same five questions in two alternating formats: "flying from Los Angeles to Tokyo, how many time zones do you cross?" and "it's 14:00 in Sydney — what time is it in Halifax?" Answer before the clock runs out, and the reveal pins both cities on the map with their real UTC offsets.

The offsets are computed live for today's date, so daylight saving time is always in play — the answer for London to New York genuinely changes twice a year. And the world's clocks are stranger than they look: India runs on a half-hour offset, China spans five zones' worth of land on a single clock, and flying east across the Pacific can land you the day before you left.

How points work

Each of the 5 questions is worth up to 200 points — a perfect day is 1000.

  • 🟩 Exact answer — 200 points
  • 🟨 Off by one — one zone or up to one hour out — 100 points
  • 🟥 Further off — 0 points, but you see the real offsets anyway

"Zones crossed" counts the difference in UTC offset between the two cities — the number of times your watch has to jump, not the squiggly lines your plane happens to fly over.
