What is Hierarchy Ladder?
Hierarchy Ladder is a free daily geography game. Every day at midnight UTC, everyone in the world gets the same obscure town — a real place, somewhere on Earth, that you've probably never heard of. Your job: name its country in four guesses or fewer.
The twist is the ladder. Every wrong guess unlocks the next rung of the town's real administrative address, from the top down: first the continent, then the region or state, then the local sub-region. It's the same chain of places a postal service would climb — just in reverse, and against the clock, because you only get 30 seconds per guess.
How points work
You start the day sitting on 1000 points — every hint you need costs 250 of them.
- 🟩 First try, no hints — the perfect 1000
- 🟥🟩 Solved after the continent hint — 750
- 🟥🟥🟩 After the region hint — 500
- 🟥🟥🟥🟩 After the sub-region hint — 250
- 🟥🟥🟥🟥 Out of guesses — 0, and the map shows you where it was
Typos are free: guesses only count when they match a real country from the list.
The hints come from the same engine behind MapGO's Location Hierarchy tool, which takes any point on Earth and returns its full chain of places — country, state, sub-region, municipality. Sign in free to save your score, build a streak, and appear on the daily and all-time leaderboards.
