What is Coast or Toast?
Coast or Toast is a free daily geography game. Every day at midnight UTC, everyone in the world gets the same three cities. You probably know the city — but do you know how far it is from the sea? For each one, type how many kilometers you think it is to the nearest coastline, then watch the real answer land on the map.
What counts is how many times over or under the truth you are, not the raw kilometers. Being 5 km off is a big miss when the answer is 8 km, but costs almost nothing when the answer is 300 km. So don't sweat exact numbers — get the scale right: is this city right on the water, 100 km inland, or 1,000?
How points work
Each of the 3 rounds is worth up to 333 points — a perfect day is 1000.
- 🟩 Within ~1.7× of the truth — 267 to 333 points
- 🟨 Within 4× — 167 to 266 points
- 🟧 Within 9× — 67 to 166 points
- ⬜ Further out — under 67 points; 16× off or more scores zero
Example: if the answer is 40 km, anything from 23 to 70 km is a green. 10 to 160 km still earns yellow points. 640 km or more and the round is gone.
The distances come from the same geospatial engine behind MapGO's Distance to Coastline tool, which finds the exact nearest point on the coast for any coordinates on Earth. Sign in free to save your score, build a streak, and appear on the daily and all-time leaderboards.
