Convert GeoPackage online — free

GeoPackage (.gpkg) is the modern replacement for the shapefile: an open OGC standard that packs any number of layers, full attribute tables and spatial indexes into a single SQLite-based file. QGIS made it the default save format, and ArcGIS Pro, GDAL and every current GIS tool read it.

If someone sent you a .gpkg you can’t open, or a tool in your chain still wants shapefiles or KML, convert it below — or convert your legacy formats into GeoPackage and consolidate. Files up to 5 GB are supported on the largest plan.

Files are deleted automatically after 48 hours. Your files are never shared.

GPKG: frequently asked questions

How do I open a .gpkg file?

The quickest way is QGIS (free): drag the .gpkg into the window and its layers appear. If you just need the data in another format — GeoJSON for a web map, CSV for a spreadsheet, shapefile for a legacy tool — convert it right here without installing anything.

Can one GeoPackage hold multiple layers?

Yes — it is a database, so points, lines, polygons and even rasters can live side by side in one file. Note that MapGO currently converts the first vector layer; export a specific layer to its own file in QGIS if you need a different one.

Is the GPKG converter free?

Yes — new accounts get free conversion credits, and paid plans convert unlimited files within their size limit. Nothing to install; everything runs in the cloud.

What is the maximum file size?

Up to 5 GB per file on the largest plan (smaller plans have lower limits). Files are deleted automatically after 48 hours.
