Convert CSV to GPX online
Convert CSV — plain spreadsheet rows of latitude/longitude you can open in Excel or Google Sheets — into GPS Exchange Format (GPX), which is the GPS track and waypoint format exported by Garmin devices and fitness apps. Drop your CSV file below, GPX is already selected as the output, and download the result. Everything runs in your browser and the cloud; you never install anything.

Why convert CSV to GPX with MapGO?
Most online converters take one file and hand back one file. MapGO is built on a real geospatial engine, so a single upload can do more.
- Several outputs in one upload
Tick GPX and any other formats you need; every selected format is delivered from the same file.
- Files up to 5 GB
Far beyond the browser-based converters that choke past a few hundred megabytes.
- Reproject while you convert
Set a source and target EPSG code and the coordinate system is changed during the conversion, no second tool needed.
- Private by default
Files are deleted automatically after 48 hours.
CSV vs GPX at a glance
| CSV | GPX | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical use | Spreadsheets and data analysis — Excel, Google Sheets, pandas | GPS tracks and waypoints from Garmin, Strava, Wahoo and outdoor apps |
| Size on disk | Small for point data; geometry beyond points stored as WKT text | Light XML |
| Attribute support | Flat columns only — no nesting; readers guess the types | Fixed schema (elevation, time, name) — no custom fields |
| Software support | Opens everywhere, including every non-GIS tool | GPS devices, fitness platforms, most GIS tools |
| Web-friendliness | Fine for point data; not a real geometry format | Needs conversion for web maps |
Other ways to convert CSV to GPX
You don't need an online tool for this. If you have GDAL installed, one command does it.
In QGIS (free): open your CSV via Layer → Add Layer, then right-click the layer → Export → Save Features As… and pick GPX as the format.
The MapGO converter above is for when you don't want to install anything, need to convert to several formats at once, or are handling files too large for a desktop machine.
ogr2ogr -f "GPX" output.gpx input.csvCSV to GPX: frequently asked questions
Is the CSV to GPX converter free?
Partly. Every new account gets three welcome conversions for free, so you can try CSV to GPX without paying. After that, you can either buy a credit pack and pay per conversion, or take a subscription, which gives you unlimited conversions within the plan's file-size limit. There is nothing to install; the whole conversion runs in the cloud.
Is my data kept private?
Conversion is fully automated and your file is never shared. Files are deleted automatically after 48 hours. Download your GPX result and it's yours to keep.
What does the GPX output contain?
You get a clean GPS Exchange Format (GPX) file with your geometry and attributes preserved, ready to open in the tools that read GPX.
How should my CSV be structured for conversion?
One row per feature with a latitude and a longitude column in decimal degrees. The headers are detected automatically and are not case-sensitive — lat, latitude or Y for one, and lng, long, longitude or X for the other. If your rows hold full shapes rather than single points, put the Well-Known Text in a column named geometry_wkt instead.
What ends up in the GPX file?
Points become waypoints and lines become tracks, in the latitude/longitude every GPS device expects. A name column fills each waypoint’s name, and the other columns go into its description, which is what Garmin, Strava and phone apps show. GPX cannot hold polygons, so a file with areas is refused with a suggestion to use KML instead.
Can I convert GPX back to CSV?
Yes — use our GPX to CSV converter for the reverse direction. MapGO supports conversions in both directions between these formats.
