Convert CSV to GPKG online
Convert CSV — plain spreadsheet rows of latitude/longitude you can open in Excel or Google Sheets — into GeoPackage, which is the modern OGC SQLite-based container that stores multiple layers in a single file and is replacing the shapefile. Drop your CSV file below, GPKG is already selected as the output, and download the result. Everything runs in your browser and the cloud; you never install anything.

Why convert CSV to GPKG with MapGO?
Most online converters take one file and hand back one file. MapGO is built on a real geospatial engine, so a single upload can do more.
- Several outputs in one upload
Tick GPKG and any other formats you need; every selected format is delivered from the same file.
- Files up to 5 GB
Far beyond the browser-based converters that choke past a few hundred megabytes.
- Reproject while you convert
Set a source and target EPSG code and the coordinate system is changed during the conversion, no second tool needed.
- Private by default
Files are deleted automatically after 48 hours.
CSV vs GPKG at a glance
| CSV | GPKG | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical use | Spreadsheets and data analysis — Excel, Google Sheets, pandas | The modern default for storing and exchanging GIS layers (QGIS standard) |
| Size on disk | Small for point data; geometry beyond points stored as WKT text | Compact single .gpkg file; many layers in one database |
| Attribute support | Flat columns only — no nesting; readers guess the types | Full database types, long column names, spatial indexes |
| Software support | Opens everywhere, including every non-GIS tool | QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, GDAL — all current GIS software |
| Web-friendliness | Fine for point data; not a real geometry format | Not web-native — convert to GeoJSON or FlatGeobuf for the browser |
Other ways to convert CSV to GPKG
You don't need an online tool for this. If you have GDAL installed, one command does it.
In QGIS (free): open your CSV via Layer → Add Layer, then right-click the layer → Export → Save Features As… and pick GPKG as the format.
The MapGO converter above is for when you don't want to install anything, need to convert to several formats at once, or are handling files too large for a desktop machine.
ogr2ogr -f "GPKG" output.gpkg input.csvCSV to GPKG: frequently asked questions
Is the CSV to GPKG converter free?
Partly. Every new account gets three welcome conversions for free, so you can try CSV to GPKG without paying. After that, you can either buy a credit pack and pay per conversion, or take a subscription, which gives you unlimited conversions within the plan's file-size limit. There is nothing to install; the whole conversion runs in the cloud.
Is my data kept private?
Conversion is fully automated and your file is never shared. Files are deleted automatically after 48 hours. Download your GPKG result and it's yours to keep.
What does the GPKG output contain?
You get a clean GeoPackage file with your geometry and attributes preserved, ready to open in the tools that read GPKG.
How should my CSV be structured for conversion?
One row per feature with a latitude and a longitude column in decimal degrees. The headers are detected automatically and are not case-sensitive — lat, latitude or Y for one, and lng, long, longitude or X for the other. If your rows hold full shapes rather than single points, put the Well-Known Text in a column named geometry_wkt instead.
Why convert to GeoPackage instead of shapefile?
GeoPackage is one file instead of five, has no 10-character column-name limit, no 2 GB cap, and stores multiple layers with spatial indexes. QGIS uses it as the default format — it is the recommended target unless a legacy tool forces shapefiles.
